MONDAYS: FEBRUARY 20 - MARCH 20
two series of classes - ongoing:
7:00 - 8:15pm: FUNDAMENTALS OF TANGO - Get it right the first time! Connection, walking, posture, cross, ochos, and simple turns. How to pass and accept (or refuse) the invitation to dance and the etiquette on the social dance floor. This class is suitable for complete beginners as well as dancers with more experience who wish to perfect the basics.
8:30 - 9:45pm: TRIBUTE TO CARLOS GAVITO - This series of classes is a tribute to one of the most mesmerizing, iconic figures of tango, the late Carlos Gavito, who continues to be a great inspiration for many dancers around the world. The material for the classes is based on my personal recollections, notes and videos from classes and lessons that I have taken with Gavito in Buenos Aires. In addition to many concrete technical points and some signature moves, we will try to give you a glimpse into Gavito’s philosophy, his poetic take on tango, his notion of embrace, cadencia and, of course, ‘la pausa’. The class includes printed material, as well as viewing video footages. Intermediate level.
REGISTRATION: You need to email firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
ADMISSION: MIT students $35, other students and MIT affiliates $ 50, non-students $ 75. MIT Spouses prices adjusted to their spouse status. Payment (cash or personal check) is due in the first class and it is non-refundable.
